The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Horton, is of 12thC origin, rebuilt in 1827 and restored in 1903 by Hicks of Newcastle. The church was administered by the Prior of Tynemouth in 1147. In 1650 Church Commissioners recommended its erection into a Parish, including Blyth Neuk, Newsham and Cramlington. In 1768 it was finally separated from Woodhorn. Noteable features; memorial stone in the South wall to Anne Barbowle, bell dated 1621 and an 18thC sun dial.
