Magnet House & Andrews House (1930)
Architects: Cackett, Burns Dick & Mackellar
Location: Blackett Street. Materials: Portland Stone and Brick. Status: Listed Grade II.
This building was designed for the General Electric Company and uses traditional materials of brick and Portland stone. With over 100 windows on its upper floors its sheer size provides some difficulties for traditional streets. The whole composition is given a human interest with the excellent coloured panels showing figures in dramatic but noble poses, inspired by the wonder and excitement of power generation.
